Journey
Paballo Basetsana Mothapo, professionally known as Pabi Cooper, is a South African Amapiano singer, songwriter, dancer, and entrepreneur from Soshanguve, Pretoria. She blends music, dance, and football culture into an artistic identity unique to her.
Raised by her grandmother and aunt, Cooper developed a fearless work ethic early. She was a dedicated soccer player and aspiring referee before the COVID‑19 pandemic paused sporting activities. During this time, she pivoted to social media content creation and dance, which led to her first studio recording in 2021.
Her breakthrough came with the platinum-certified single “Isphithiphithi”, featuring Busta 929, Reece Madlisa, and Joocy. She followed with hits like “Banyana Ke Bafana”, also platinum-certified, and released her debut EP "Cooperville" (2022), which included tracks such as “Waga Bietjie”. Her music fuses Amapiano with house, jazz, and Kwaito, combining infectious dance rhythms with compelling vocal delivery.
Cooper has performed internationally, including her UK tour in 2022. Her accolades include the Basadi in Music Award for Song of the Year, Amapiano Best Newcomer Award, a BET Award nomination for Best New International Act (2023), and a spot on Forbes 30 Under 30 (2025).
Entrepreneurially, she founded Cooper Entertainment to support female artists and partnered with brands such as Redbat and Sprite. She also hosts Cooper FC, a football-themed birthday music event, celebrating her dual passions for music and football.
